Inductive Modem Instruments

Sea-Bird's Inductive Modem (IM) system for moorings provides reliable, real-time data transmission for up to 100 instruments that can be positioned or repositioned at any depth, without the use of cable connectors. IM moorings use standard plastic-jacketed wire rope as both the transmission line and mooring tension member. The heart of the IM system is an Inductive Modem Module (IMM) or Surface Inductive Modem (SIM) that communicates with the buoy controller and with the underwater instruments. The IM system can accommodate a wide variety of instruments for nearly any type of measurement. Sea-Bird manufactures IM versions of a number of instruments, measuring various combinations of temperature, conductivity, pressure, dissolved oxygen, and data from integrated auxiliary sensors. Also available are devices that allow RS-232 output instruments from other manufacturers to be integrated with an IM system.

SBE 16plus-IM V2
Moored Conductivity, Temperature, (optional) Pressure, and up to seven auxiliary sensors, at user-programmable intervals, communicating via Inductive Modem (IM) telemetry.
Moored Conductivity, Temperature, (optional) Pressure, and (optional) Dissolved Oxygen measurements, at user-programmable intervals. Now also available with pH (37-SMP-ODO with SeaFET or Deep SeaFET). Available with RS-232, RS-485, SDI-12, and Inductive Modem interfaces.

Underwater Inductive Modem Module (UIMM)
Quick way for system integrators and instrument/sensor manufacturers to adapt new or pre-existing RS-232 instruments, such as acoustic current meters, Doppler profilers, optical sensors, etc., for integration with real-time moorings using Sea-Bird’s Inductive Modem (IM) telemetry.
SBE 44 Underwater Inductive Modem (UIM)
Integrates RS-232 instruments to Inductive Modem (IM) telemetry system. Internal battery pack provides power to SBE 44 and can also power the RS-232 instrument.
Inductive Modem Module (IMM)
Link between the underwater IM instruments and the computer / buoy controller. Communication with the computer / buoy controller is via RS-232.
Surface Inductive Modem
Link between the underwater IM instruments and the computer / buoy controller. Communication with the computer / buoy controller is via RS-232.
Inductive Cable Coupler (ICC)
Link between underwater IM instruments and the SIM / IMM, used in applications where the plastic-jacketed wire termination is grounded to seawater.
