Meet the HydroCAT-EP V2

A diagram showing the changes to the HydroCAT-EP V2

Your data is more than the sum of its parts. The interplay between physical and biogeochemical parameters tells a rich scientific story – a story that can only be uncovered by a diverse sensor array. Rising dissolved oxygen could be caused by many things, but a corresponding dip in pH and wave of fluorescence illuminates the algae growing beneath the surface. To find these nuances, you need the proper environmental monitoring tool.

Introducing the HydroCAT-EP V2, Sea-Bird Scientific’s latest multiparameter instrument. We took the field-proven MicroCAT (SBE 37) and added a host of integrated sensors to the base CTD to provide users with a robust sampling platform in a compact, self-contained package.

The HydroCAT-EP V2 adds the following parameters to moorings:

  • Temperature
  • Conductivity
  • Pressure (optional)
  • pH
  • Dissolved Oxygen (optional)
  • Fluorescence (optional)
  • Turbidity (optional)

We designed the original HydroCAT-EP for long-term deployment in biologically rich environments, and the V2 expands on that. We’ve extended its lifespan and reliability with enhanced sealing surfaces throughout the entire housing, and a new design for the pH sensor makes it easier to calibrate in the lab and swap in the field, saving valuable time and effort. But on the surface, the HydroCAT-EP V2 is the same as every Sea-Bird Scientific product: a robust sensor package for research-quality data.
